Am I eligible to apply for funding from the Trent Fund?
Only Duke faculty and staff are eligible to apply to the Trent Fund. Medical residents and post-docs may be eligible to apply provided they are Duke staff members for the duration of the grant period. We encourage these staff members to contact the Trent Fund prior to applying.
We encourage applications from junior faculty.
Who should I contact with questions regarding project fit and focus areas?
What types of projects are most likely to be supported by the Trent Fund?
The Fund is interested in work aligned with our funding areas that tests new ideas, projects that share cutting-edge work, or conferences or symposium that promote intellectual engagement by the Duke community.
The Fund offers support to Duke faculty and staff for research projects, invited speakers, seed funding for pilot projects, research service learning if faculty involvement is essential to the project and the student will produce an intellectual product, and other program support. In the case of conferences, we prefer to support those held at Duke, but will consider proposals for those elsewhere.
How do I determine travel costs for my budget form?
Ask your grant manager, or department business manager for assistance.
How are funding decisions made?
All funding decisions are made by The Trent Fund Committee and guided by the original bylaws and available funding.
When will I be notified of funding decisions?
Funding decisions are typically made within 4-6 weeks of proposal submission.
